11th Grade Students Who Report Vaping or Using E-Cigarettes

Select a County
Measurement Period: 2020

This indicator shows teens who have vaped or used e-cigarettes one or more times during the 30 days prior to the survey.

Why is this important?

Electronic vapor products, or E-cigarettes, heat a liquid to produce an inhalable aerosol. The liquid in these products may be flavored and usually contains nicotine like normal combustible cigarettes and cigars. Nicotine is a highly addictive substance that can harm brain development in young adults. Using nicotine in adolescence can affect parts of the brain that are responsible for attention, learning, mood and impulse control. Young people who use e-cigarettes may be more likely to smoke in the future. E-cigarettes can also be used to deliver marijuana and other drugs. E-cigarette vapor is not harmless. Even without nicotine or other drugs, the vapor may contain particles or chemicals that are linked to serious lung disease.
